Book Recommendation: Pleasure Healing!
Recently, I've shared about my own health setback, and mentioned some of the modalities that I've found to be helpful in my recovery. The book: Pleasure Healing: Mindful Practices & Sacred Spa Rituals for Self-Nurturing, has been a wonderful companion for me throughout the last 6 weeks. This book, by Mary Beth Janssen, is such a pleasure to read, it seems to evoke the relaxation response from me just by turning the pages.
During my recovery, I've immersed myself in mindfulness meditation, yoga classes, and daily walks in nature. The book focuses on the importance of mindfulness for raising awareness of the sacred in everyday. Allowing yourself to be the nonjudgmental witness of experience, you quiet the critical voice, and I find myself becoming more attuned to spirit. This connectedness with spirit enables you to begin to cultivate compassion and allows you to feel appreciation and gratitude.
I love the book, too for its focus on pleasure for healing. With my own clients, I often discuss how use of the five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing can be beneficial for self soothing and tolerating distress.
