Tips for using the "Law of Attraction"
On a couple of earlier posts,I wrote about some of the difficulties that people have with the "Law of Attraction". I wanted to write this post to provide more information regarding the positive aspects of this universal law.
To recap, one of the difficulties that I have cited (see "New Age Guilt" and "Dancing with the shadow" posts) includes the propensity to take the "like attracts like" simple definition of the Law of Attraction and use it as a way to make direct correlations that can be guilt inducing for some populations. For example, those who are diagnosed with a serious illness, those grieving a loss and people who are the victims of crimes all need our compassion and support. It is not useful and further it is hurtful to view these people as having brought these conditions onto themselves. Perhaps, after there has been some time and space accepting and healing from the illness, loss, or feeling of having been victimized, the individual will be able to process the event or illness in a way that is meaningful to them, understanding the learning and/or gifts that can result from pain and loss. I don't believe that the "Law of Attraction" is meant to be used to judge and criticize others.
The second difficulty arises when a person begins to push away shadow aspects of one's personality, in order to focus solely on the positive. When this happens, you lose the opportunity to become wholly integrated. If you continually deny and suppress these critical aspects of yourself, your outer world will continue to reflect this inner struggle. In other words, what you resist, persists!
Once you are able to successfully integrate the shadowy aspects of your psyche, you will be able to consciously make choices as to what you truly desire. Your desires, or intentions will be more apt to be in alignment with your "authentic" self; less apt to focus on superficial intentions that are incongruent with your *Soul's Code.
I read several articles on using the Law of Attraction, and found some common ideas for how-to manifest your desires. Below are some tips of using the "Law of Attraction" in a way that can work for you.
1. Accept what is.
2. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for what you do have in your life.
3. Become clear about what it is that you want to manifest in your life. *Here, for example we may think it is the new car, new wardrobe, etc.. but if you dig deep, human beings really want pretty much the same things: good health, emotional stability, fulfilling relationships, the ability to express one's self creatively, a sense of wellbeing, and peace of mind.
4. Begin to use visualization to assist with feeling how you would feel if you already had that which you desire.
5. Cultivate your belief that what you desire will become a reality for you.
6. When opportunities come along, be ready to take inspired action.
*According to Deepak Chopra, "Most people think that success means material wealth, Success is a journey." "It is the unfolding of the divinity within us to live in harmony with the natural laws of life.

The Soul's Code: In search of character and calling.
by James Hilllman
This book is another one of my favorites. (Big Surprise!)
Hillman introduces his "Acorn Theory" which states that "Each life is formed by its unique image, an image that is the essence of that life and calls it to a destiny.' He argues that character and calling are the result of "the particularity you feel to be you." He suggests we each have a driving force, or personal "daimon". This book reassures us that we are all meant to be here, and we are needed by the world around us. (Available on Amazon by clicking the image of the book on the carousel to the right)
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success (DVD)by Deepak Chopra and Olivia Newton-John.
Deepak takes us through the laws of: Pure Potential, Giving and Receiving, Karma, Law of Least Effort, Intention and Desire, Detachment, and Dharma This film also includes interviews and music from Olivia Newton-John throughout. (Available on Amazon by clicking the image of the DVD on the carousel to the right).
In brief, here are the seven spiritual laws by Deepak Chopra, explained in the movie, that lead you to success:
1. The Law of Pure Potentiality
The source of all creation and our essential nature is one of pure consciousness or pure potentiality – infinite spiritual essence, pure joy, creativity, endless possibilities, pure knowledge, infinite silence, perfect balance, invincibility, simplicity and bliss. By developing a daily practice of silence, meditation, and non-judgment, we will realize that our true Self is one of pure potentiality, and we can align with the power that manifests everything in the universe and get what we desire.
2. The Law of Giving and Receiving
The universe operates through dynamic exchange giving and receiving. In our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives. The driving force behind giving and receiving should be happiness – if you want love, love others; if you want joy, give joy to others;
3. The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect
What we sow is what we reap, and when our actions of conscious choice-making bring happiness and success to others, then through the law of karma (both action and the consequence of that action)what we receive is joy and success.
4. The Law of Least Effort
Nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease – "flowers don’t try to bloom, they bloom; birds don’t try to fly, they fly." “Least effort is expended when our actions are motivated by love, harmony, and joy."
5. The Law of Intention and Desire
When we introduce an intention in our pure potentiality, we put this infinite organizing power to work for us”. At quantum mechanical levels, when we intend, it triggers transformation of energy and information and organizes its own fulfillment.
6. The Law of Detachment
Attachment is based on fear and insecurity. Detachment is based on the unquestioning belief in the power of your true Self.
7. The Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life
“Everyone has a purpose in life…a unique gift to give to others, and when we blend this talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.”
According to Deepak, "First, we have to discover our true Self. Second, express our special talents. Third, use the gift to serve humanity."
I love this statement, it makes sense on so many levels: developmentally, spiritually, psychologically, and physically.
Create Your Health by applying this principle: discover your true self, express your special talents, and use your gifts to serve humanity!
